Sentinel Volleyball Pumped for State

Posted: Updated:

After an up and down regular season the Sentinel Spartans earned the five seed and a trip to Helena to face Capital in a playoff game.  Playing the familiar underdog role, the Spartans shocked the Bruin crowd and pulled off the upset.

"It was just incredible, we all went in thinking we were going to win and we all just believed that we could and we did it and it was the best feeling in the world," said Junior Middle Blocker Echo Lenss.

"Lots of tears of joy it was a fun experience," said Senior Lexi Delridge.

"I seriously couldn't stop smiling for a solid 24 hours, I probably slept smiling so it was awesome," said Sentinel Head Coach Erin Keffeler.

The Spartan team is now preparing to pull off a few more upsets at state, something they weren't sure they would have the opportunity to do.

"One of our main goals in the beginning of the year was to make it to state, but in the middle we didn't think we were going to do it, but now that we are going to state it's just incredible," said Lenss.

All three classes will go to Bozeman for the state tournament and Sentinel will be one of the shortest teams their in terms of height regardless of class.  Their coach tabbed them as the "little team that could" and they've proven you don't have to be tall to win volleyball games.

"Our tallest girl is 5'10 and after her there's one at 5'8 and several at 5'7, so we are pretty small but we have great big hearts though," said Keffeler.

"Playing with so much heart and being so much shorter than everyone else we do have to play harder and tee definitely have and we've come together and that's what it takes," said Delridge.

The Spartans will play number one seed Billings Senior in the first round of the state tournament on Thursday at two p.m.
