Havre Special Olympics Team Stops By KFBB

Posted: Updated:

The Havre Special Olympics team, the Blue Ponies, stopped by our station this morning on the way to the state games basketball tournament which is being held in Great Falls this year.

The basketball games here in Great Falls are the result of eight hard weeks of practice put in by the Special Olympic athletes. It is the highlight of their season, and the Blue Ponies have two teams competing in the event as well as some kids performing on their own in the special skills events. The kids and coaches were extremely excited to get to their games, but they were kind enough to stop by the station and share some of their enthusiasm.

"What are you here for?"

"Basketball and to win!"

"I'm here for basketball, too."

"Are you excited about it?"

"Yeah."

"Go ponies!"

One of the volunteers with the Blue Ponies had this to say about the meaning behind the fun program.

"This organization is amazing. It is life changing for some people including myself as a person that volunteers with athletes. It is also life changing for the athletes. It makes such a difference in their lives. It gives them something exciting to do being a part of something. Living their lives through sports is the mission of Special Olympics and it teaches them a lot of great life skills."

We wish all of those competing in the games this year the best of luck! We hope you are able to bring home the gold!

Mills Canyon burn out planned for Tuesday

ENTIAT, Wash. - A burn out operation is planned for Tuesday morning in an effort to establish a secure line in the bottom of the canyon where the Mills Canyon Fire is burning. Burning material rolling downhill and igniting spot fires on the north side of Swakane Canyon have caused concerns and indicate a vulnerability to a fire escape and repeatedly expose firefighters to very steep terrain and rolling material.
