Tori Takes On Being a Mermaid At the Sip N Dip Lounge

Posted: Updated:

Today I'm part of their world. The world of mermaids at the world famous Sip N Dip. But you don't just take a dip into the tank. You have to get prepped, and that means getting fitted. And now that's not for a suit, its for a tail. That's when Sandra Johnson-Thares, the General Manager comes in.

Now I know what you're thinking, how did a mermaid bar end up here in Great Falls? Well, its roots go all the way back to Chicago.

Sandra told us that, "The hotel was build in 1962. The windows and the lounge are original to the building. The gentleman who built the hotel had been to the Playboy Club in Chicago and saw the same window concept and decided he wanted to put it here in the hotel."

There's a school of six mermaids that work here at the Sip N Dip. My new mermaid friends Tracy and Melanie have been working here for quite some time and they love it.

And of course this is my first time sporting a tail, so I had to ask Melanie, do you have any advice for a first time fin flapper like myself? She explained to me that, "people don't realize how easy it is to float to the surface. It takes a lot of work to actually get down under the water, so just be aware of that. Also really use your arms, because using your legs will be impossible."

With that in mind, I'm ready for my big debut, but I have to say I'm pretty nervous. As you know, I am an anchor, but anchors tend to sink.

Looks like I made a splash. But wow this little mermaid thing is tougher than you think, especially swimming with that tail. But of course this made for an even better take for "Tori Takes on Great Falls Jobs.
