Girl Saves Her Mother

Posted: Updated:

A little girl who's a very big hero. She saved her mother's life. And she did it using a technique she learned from watching a classic comedy movie.

Who knew this scene from Mrs. Doubtfire would save this mom's life.

"Yeah, it's amazing what they can learn on TV," said mom, Jennifer.

There is no doubt that T-v can be educational - but teach a life saving technique like the Heimlich.

Jennifer explained,"It was pretty scary, because there was no one else here, and I couldn't talk. I was just in shock."

Amira Thorton was laying on the couch watching T-v when she heard a strange noise from the kitchen.

"She was going eh eh eh and waving her arms," said Amira.

Choking on a piece of sausage - Amira's mom couldn't breath.

Amira said, "I picked her up three times."

Her tiny arms wrapped around her mom's waist - then finally:

"...she spit the sausage out," said Amaira

Mom wasn't surprised by Amira's strength.

Amira joked, "Welcome to the gunshow, baby!"

Jennifer said, "I was just like at that time, you know she saved my life."

ENTIAT, Wash. - A burn out operation is planned for Tuesday morning in an effort to establish a secure line in the bottom of the canyon where the Mills Canyon Fire is burning. Burning material rolling downhill and igniting spot fires on the north side of Swakane Canyon have caused concerns and indicate a vulnerability to a fire escape and repeatedly expose firefighters to very steep terrain and rolling material.
