Montana's Selvig Gets Career Win 800

Posted: Updated:

Missoula, MT - While he didn't want to talk about it in the days leading up to Monday night's home game against Portland, win number 800 had to feel pretty darn good.

University of Montana women's head basketball coach Robin Selvig won the 800th game of his glorious career as his Lady Griz overcame some early shooting struggles to top the Pilots, 68-61 at Dahlberg Arena.

Selvig becomes just the 8th D-1 women's coach to reach the lofty milestone, and the fourth fastest to get to the mark. In his 36th season with Montana, he has a record of 800-255 with 23 conference titles and 20 NCAA Tournament appearances.

The 61-year-old coach joined Pat Summitt, Sylvia Hatchell, C. Vivian Stringer, Tara VanDerveer, Geno Auriemma, Jody Conradt and Andy Landers in the 800-victory club. He has never beaten any of them, going 0-5 against the other members with all those games coming in the NCAA tournament.

"I'm really happy we got it the first try. I didn't want to have to listen to, When are you going to get 800? When are you going to get 800? Now we can focus on getting better and winning No. 801," Selvig said. "What's really nice about it is we beat a really good team tonight. I didn't know where we were at this point in the year, but now I think we're going to have a pretty good team."

Tory Hill led the way for Montana (2-0) with 16 points. Alycia Simms added 13 for the Lady Griz. Jasmine Wooton led the way for the Pilots (2-2) with 20 points.

Montana is facing a major overcrowding issue in animal shelters across the state.  With every shelter at max capacity, if not more, animal shelters are forced to make room wherever possible. The main culprits of the overcrowding are cats, however, dogs are also part of the equation. GREAT FALLS- Protesters gathered on the sidewalks of downtown Great Falls this afternoon to express frustration on how Sen. Jon Tester is handling veteran issues. They believe Sen. Tester isn't living up to what he said he'd do to help veterans. The duo held up signs saying "Tester hasn't kept his promises to vets". They told us some more protesters had stopped by throughout the hours of 11:00 and 1:00 this afternoon. "I've seen so many veterans come by here and say y...
