President Obama Honors JFK at Freedom Medal Award Ceremony

Posted: Updated:

President Kennedy was shot and killed just two weeks before he was scheduled to award the first Freedom Medals which are now the nation's highest civilian awards.

Fifty years later, President Obama awarded the Freedom Medals to Americans who have made a difference in the nation's history and culture. Those Americans included big names such as former President Bill Clinton and Oprah Winfrey. All of this took place while honoring JFK.

"This year, it's just a little more special because this marks the 50th anniversary of President Kennedy establishing this award," said President Obama.

After the award ceremony, President Obama and the first lady were joined by the Clinton family and members of the Kennedy family at the grave site to remember the late president.

With the emotional 50th anniversary coming up on Friday, ABC FOX Montana want to hear from you. We want to know where you were, how you felt, and what you remember from that day. Share your story in the comments below.
