AAA awards $10,000 to Rural Fire Departments

Posted: Updated:

In Helena today AAA Mountain West awarded ten rural and volunteer fire departments from around Montana each with $1,000.

AAA held a ceremony at the Helena Fire Department to award the other 10 departments and say thank you to all their work. This is the fourth year the AAA Rural Fire Department Grant Program aims to recognize, honor and reward the youth safety education efforts of departments across the state.

"I think with the partnerships and looking at these other departments they talked about mutual aid and we could not survive without it and we will respond to help any other department at any time we have the opportunity to whenever they need help because we know they would do the same for us." says Tim Tharp from North Toole County Fire Department. "It is great having that partnership with AAA Montana so they recognize that as well and I think they know it too because a lot of the time that people need AAA assistance it involves our volunteer departments as well."

AAA put out a call for grant applications in August for this award, the departments were asked to write an essay detailing their current safety education efforts, the techniques they use to impart their message to kids, and how they grant will help expand or increase the impact of their safety education programs.
