Special Teams Could be Key to a Carroll Victory

Posted: Updated:

Helena, MT - When the Carroll College football team looks ahead to Saturday's football game against Georgetown, the Saints say the key to a victory could be special teams.

When asked what they need to do to beat Tigers, Saints Head Coach Mike Van Diest said that Carroll's special teams could be the "hidden factor" in the game.

This year, the Saints lead the nation in yards per game on punt returns, and they've had four different players collect the conference special teams player of the week award. So, the Saints have been successful so  far, and hope it continues at home on Saturday.

"Special teams wise we're always hanging out. We get along really well so I guess that sort of cohesion and chemistry we got going together. But obviously it's offense and defense as well. All three play a big part," says Sophomore punter Rhys Felton.

Van Diest adds, "We have to have great special teams. Rhys and Connor are going to be key elements in this game. And if they have to be called on either to punt the ball or to get field position back, or Connor to get points every time we're down in the red zone, that's kind of the hidden yardage and the hidden factor in the game."

Tickets are still available for Saturday's first round match-up. Kick-off in Helena is slated for 12:07 p.m.

GREAT FALLS- With hunting season officially underway, many families lucky enough to get something may have a little extra meat on their hands.
