Attempted Helena casino robbery leads to one suspect in hospital

Posted: Updated:

Topping our news tonight, a mans plan to rob a Helena casino did not go exactly as planned.

In fact he ended up in the hospital after being struck numerous times with an aluminum baseball bat.

Early Sunday morning two men with bandanas over their faces entered the Copper Club Casino off Euclid Avenue with a plan to rob the casino. The two men demanded money and began assaulting a casino employee, the employee then triggered the robbery alarm grabbed an aluminum baseball bat and hit one of the suspects who eventually fled. The other man ran into the parking lot, and the employee followed hitting him several times with the bat putting him in the hospital.

"One suspect is still in the hospital we are not sure exactly what is going to happen with him we have not charged him at this time so we are not allowed to release his name, but we do anticipate charging that person when the time is right." says Helena Police Chief Troy McGee. "The second suspect the detectives yesterday worked on some leads, worked on some different interviews, and evidence and that and we did find the second suspect in Butte and he was arrested on an attempted robbery warrant."

The Helena Police Department is asking anyone in the public that may know anything about this crime or may have heard of anything to call the police department to help continue the investigation.
