Rescue Mission Has Early Thanksgiving

Posted: Updated:

The Great Falls Rescue Mission is giving families in Great Falls an early Thanksgiving dinner. The Great Falls Rescue Mission started Thanksgiving a little early for the city of Great Falls.

"We are celebrating Thanksgiving for those folks that might not get a Thanksgiving meal otherwise. We have a pre-registration program where we had people to call in and they sign up to come and have a meal with us. So we've cooked about, well enough to feed almost 800 people," explains Development Director, Jim McCormick.

Certainly the number of people through the door has met the Rescue Missions expectations. "We're figuring pretty close to 800," says McCormick.

Helping out the Great Falls Rescue Mission is several groups from the community making the event that much more special for many families.

"Oh my goodness, we have probably 150 volunteers. We had military groups and set up all the tables and what not beforehand and then they take off and then we have a group that comes in and serves and then we have another group that comes in at the end of the evening and takes everything down," explains McCormick.

After they eat a few families who signed up will get to take home a turkey of their own.

"After this is over the ones that signed up will go out back and we'll give them a whole basket full of food with a turkey and all the fixings," adds McCormick.

The festivities are not done yet as the Rescue Mission are planning for another Thanksgiving meal.

"So Thursday we'll have another Thanksgiving dinner at the mission at noon time," says McCormick.
