Organizers Prepare For Thanksgiving Run

BOZEMAN -

Thousands of people are getting geared up for the 7th annual Huffing for Stuffing run in Bozeman on Thursday.

A room at the Grantree Hotel in Bozeman was packed on Wednesday with runners registering and picking up their bags for the Thanksgiving run.

"I think preparation is great. Everyone has been patient and wonderful with the volunteers," said Leigh Holleman, a Huffing for Stuffing volunteer.

Last year, the event brought 3,200 people out. Event director, John Dudas said they expect way more people this year.

"This year we are going to be over 4,000 is my expectation," said Dudas.

Dudas said runners will see one big change this year.

"South Third Avenue between Kagy Boulevard and Wagon Wheel roads will be closed of vehicle traffic," said Dudas.

Melisa Cheney and her family have been running in the Huffing for Stuffing run together for three years.

"It is just very heart-warming to see that your family is involved with a whole bunch of other families that are in the mood for giving," said Cheney.

Her daughters are also looking forward to the run.

"I just like having lots of fun running with my sister," said Abbegale Cheney.

"It feels good. It's nice to give people food and stuff when they don't have much,"said aid Anne Cheney.

Kids are asked to bring a non-perishable food item. All the food collected along with a portion of race entry fees will go directly to the Gallatin Valley Food Bank.

"We are expected to raise $45,000-$50,000 for the food bank," said Dudas.

The kids' run begins at 8 a.m. on Thursday followed by the 5k and the 10k. ABC FOX MONTANA's Sarah Gravlee will be on hand to get the race started.
