Carroll Saints Lose Centerpiece for Remainder of the Season

All-conference center Alex Kastens suffered a torn Achilles and will not be available for the Saints' quarterfinal game versus Missouri Valley on Saturday. The injury occurred last weekend during Carroll's first drive of the game. Stepping in his place will be senior Zach Balcom and the Saints say he can do the job, no problem.

"I would like to think that we won't lose a beat. Alex although gave us a lot of leadership up front, it's the same thing Zach Balcom has done when he stepped in last weekend against Georgetown. We tell our number twos you have to be as good as the number ones. We constantly grill our kids every day to be that number one guy," said offensive line coach Jim Hogan.

The players also have faith in Balcom and feel he will fit in to the offense just fine.

"Balcom did a great job last game and he's had a great week of practice so we're not expecting any difference. He's been practicing all year and he'll step in and do a great job," said Dustin Rinker, Saints junior running back.

Carroll plays this Saturday in Helena at 12:07pm.
