Locals Tackle Bullying in Montana part. 1

Posted: Updated:

Bullying has been a major problem across Montana, but here in Great Falls local schools and community groups are doing what they can to fight this form of harassment.

"But the main thing we want to get across to people is stop bullying it starts with you it starts with me if you see something that shouldn't be being done make sure to say it to somebody," says Dan Hopkins.

Bullying is an epidemic problem all across the US, it takes all forms like cyber bullying to the old fashioned playground bully, here in Great Falls one family began a stand.

"It's more of a way for folks to communicate when they have an issue somebody to like a sounding board," explains Hopkins.

In fact here in the treasure state we are one of the few states in America to not have a law to deal with bullying, something Hopkins is hoping to change.

"And it was also a way for us to reach out to legislature and also other parents and teachers, what needs to be done? What kind of things need to be incorporated into a bill," says Hopkins.

To help bring this issue to the forefront Hopkins and his wife started a Facebook group to support the fight against bullying with a very simple message to get out.

"Well one of the first things that we want to point out to people if you see bullying taking place end it. If you know of somebody being bullied stand up for that person and not allow it to happen. And on the same token if you are a bully end the cycle stop it," says Hopkins.

Closer to home the Great Falls Public Schools are also getting seriously involved with issue.

"The Great Falls Public Schools District does have a great campaign in place," says Hopkins.
