Accidental Deaths: 3rd Highest Killer in Montana

According to the Flathead County Community Health Needs Assessment for 2012-2013, for unintentional injuries in general, the state of Montana has a higher death rate than Flathead county. For just motor vehicle fatalities, Flathead county accounts 33 for every 100,000 people. The state of Montana sees a little more than 25.    

Joe Russell, Flathead City-County Health Officer says, "Oftentimes, they're associated with our seat belt use, which in Montana can run around 70%. That means seven in ten people always wear a seat belt." 

The health assessment also points out that heart disease and cancer are the top two most common killers in the Flathead, the state, and the nation. Reporting in Kalispell, Parker Collins, ABC/FOX Montana.
