Great Falls Rescue Mission Keeping Homeless Warm

Posted: Updated:

Much of the western half of the country has been hit with an arctic blast causing temperatures to drop drastically and With temperatures well into the negatives, the Great Falls Rescue Mission is doing all they can to help the Electric City's homeless population.

Executive director Jim Kizer says there are an estimated 400 homeless people in the city of Great Falls and on average he says the rescue mission takes in 150 of those people a night, but with temperatures so low he thinks the number will definitely increase.

"I expect we will hit the max tonight. In fact what will happen is people will be sleeping on the floor," says Kizer.

Kizer adds that the mission will never turn anyone away when it is so cold outside.

"Its too cold to stay in your car or under the bridge," says Kizer.

He says the rescue mission will also be providing cold weather gear to anyone in need. They want to make sure everyone in the Electric City stays as safe and as warm as possible.

He adds, "I encourage whoever is in the cold that we are here for them, and we will bless them however we can."
