A New Grant Has Been Announced for Qualifying School Districts

Posted: Updated:

Superintendent Denise Juneau has just announced the availability of grants for oil and gas impacted schools.

This is the first year the Office of Public Instruction will be giving out this grant and 90 school districts are eligible. They plan to grant nearly $450,000 in awards, with a maximum of $75,000 per district.

But there is a catch, between 2012 and 2014 these school districts must have experienced one or more of the following circumstances directly related to impacts that result from the development or cessation of development in oil and natural gas. These include an unusual enrollment increase or decrease, higher rates of student mobility, a need to hire new teachers or staff as a result of increased enrollment, the opening or reopening of an elementary or high school and last but not least, major maintenance for a school or district.

Applications are due January 15th of next year, and the grants will be announced March 7th.
