Keep Your Car Running in the Cold

Posted: Updated:

Mechanic Niko Valhau recommends using gas without ethanol since it can solidify and plug up the fuel injectors.  He also says it's a good idea to keep extra antifreeze in the car to keep the engine from cracking and to check the tread on your tires, making sure it's not too smooth.

Most windshield wiper fluids are good for up to minus 20 temperatures, but Valhua says in weather like this it might be a good idea to splurge on fluid made for minus 30.

Valhau tells us, "Me? I always run premium fuel, no ethanol, good fuel treatment, and call it good."

He also says to warm up your car for about 10 minutes before hitting the road, And make sure to turn up that defroster.
