Saints Place 8 on Beyond Sports Network All-American Team

LEESBURG, Virginia – The Carroll College Football team placed eight players on the Beyond Sports Network NAIA All-America Team announced Thursday.

Five players were named First Team All-America. Running back Dustin Rinker (jr.), linebacker Sean Blomquist (jr.), defensive backs Mike Siegersma (sr.), James Dowgin (so.) and kicker Conor Smith (jr.) rounded out the first team membership.

Rinker rushed for a school-record 1,960 yards and scored 18 total touchdowns. Blomquist recorded 124 tackles and 7 sacks. Siegersma managed 42 tackles and an interception from his cornerback spot and Dowgin snagged a team-best 7 interceptions to go along with 83 tackles from his safety position.

Smith connected on 16 of his 17 field goal tries and scored 108 points to tie Rinker for tops on the Carroll squad.

Two special team members, punter Rhys Felton (so.) and punt-returner Jared Mayernik (jr.) were named to the second team and offensive lineman Levi Coughlin (sr.) was named to the third team.

Felton averaged a stellar 44 yards per punt and Mayernik averaged 15.3 yards per return including two touchdown returns.

Carroll College won their 13th Frontier Conference championship in 14 seasons and compiled a 12-2 record overall. The Fighting Saints advanced to the NAIA National Semifinal, losing to the University of the Cumberlands (Ky.) 34-27 in overtime.

The 2013 BSN All America Team was chosen by votes from SIDs, coaches, media, and BSN Staff. Each college had the opportunity to submit two votes. The voting was tight at a number of positions.
