Deer Management Plan Approved for Helena

Posted: Updated:

It must have been quite the project, but Helena's annual deer counting has officially finished and now that its complete, Fish, Wildlife, and Parks have been able to approve an Urban Deer Management for the Queen City.

On Thursday the FWP commission approved the plan to remove the high number of deer within the city limits. The Helena Police Department is the agency in charge of the removal of the deer, and will set up traps around the city, put the deer down, and donate them to the local food bank. The Fish, Wildlife, and Parks commission approved the city on taking a total of 130 deer, all taking place over the next year.
