Wrestler's Wife Goes Into Labor While Watching Argos Wrestle

Posted: Updated:

Argos wrestler Sheldon Page stopped by practice in street clothes on Wednesday, not because he's injured, but because he's been at home with his wife who recently delivered their 3rd child.

"Little baby girl. She was 7 pounds, 12 ounces when she was born, 19 inches... so good size," Page says with a smile

Hope Rebecca Page was born last Friday around 6:15 PM. A few hours after mom went into labor while watching the Argos dual.

"My wife called me over into the stands and told me it was time to go," Page recalls.  "I couldn't even believe he was trying to wrestle for us throughout the day. His wife went into labor during the competition and he just waved to me and said he had to go and I knew where he was going," says Argos Head Wrestling Coach Caleb Schaeffer."

An hour and a half later, Rebecca was born. If it was up to Sheldon, he would have been back wrestling later that day.

"The day before he goes I just need an hour after my baby is born and I'll be back to wrestling. The wife didn't think too fondly of that," Schaeffer says."

"I was hoping to stick around and wrestle, but sometimes you don't always get everything you want to," Page adds.

Sheldon will graduate later this month, then has a job managing the school's bookstore. A return to the mat, that's still up in the air.

"We'll see what happens. I'm not too worried about it though," Page says.

Whether or not he makes a return to the Argos, Sheldon has certainly proved the kind of team player he is.

"I really commend him for being in the bleachers and wrestling for us that day when he knew his wife could go into labor anytime," Schaeffer say
