Armed Stand-off Leads To High Speed Chase

An attempt to apprehend a suspect in a rape case turned into a high speed chase on the interstate.

We first received reports this afternoon of an armed stand-off with police at 23rd and Division in Great Falls, and the Cascade County Sheriff's office confirms that at two o'clock a suspect they were trying to apprehend failed to stop and fled.

A suspect was a black Ford F150 and headed north on I-15 with police in pursuit.

We learned tonight that about thirty minutes into the pursuit, the truck went into the median and stopped near the Gordan exit of I-15.

Paramedics were called to the scene for a gunshot wound to the head, and the sheriff's office confirmed that the suspect has died.

All police were accounted for as safe.

Portions of I-15 around mile marker 297 may be closed or diverted for the evening as the Montana Department of Criminal Investigation processes the area.

The sheriff's office says the case is currently under investigation, and they will not be releasing any new information at this time.
