Missoula Man Accused of Murdering Grandmother

Posted: Updated:

In Missoula County  Justice Court Monday, Judge Karen Orzech said,"In light of the seriousness of the alleged crime, and danger to the community, the court is going to set bail at $250,000."

Court documents show 25-year-old Tyler Perry hitchhiked to Missoula from Seattle, and had been living with his grandmother since Thanksgiving.

On Saturday around 9 p.m., Missoula police responded to 1555 Kent Avenue around 9 p.m.

Police say Perry had told a tow truck driver outside the house to call 9-1-1 because he'd just killed his grandmother. Inside, police found Carol Perry dead on a couch in the living room from blunt force trauma to her head. Investigators discovered a chair, broken into several pieces, with blood on the seat.

During an interview, investigators say Perry confessed he'd taken the chair and hit his grandmother multiple times in the head. Perry also told investigators he'd done it because his grandmother had a "third eye" and she was trying to, "suck the life out of tyranny."

He also allegedly told investigators and that "everybody knew we needed to bash her over the head."

He also told police he'd never had previous psychiatric treatment, nor any diagnosed mental health issues.
