Yellowstone National Park Opens Up for the Winter Season

Posted: Updated:

With winter coming at us in full force, yesterday Yellowstone National Park opened its doors for the season.

Philip Chiaviello and his wife just moved to Montana. Today they were excited to cross-country ski on the upper terrace of the Mammoth Hot Springs and that every year he looks forward to winter season in the park.

Despite the attractions, however spokesman, Al Nash says opening day was fairly quiet this year. He explains that, "Whether it falls on a weekend or week day the beginning of the season is a place to start, but its not usually that active."

Even though the park is pretty mellow, employees are still getting ready for the new winter rules. Right now they are in transition year, so Nash says the snowmobile and snow coach rules will be similar to the rules the park has had for the last few years. Beginning next winter, however the park will not count individual snowmobiles or snow coaches.
