Bobcats' Daly, Johnson Named All-Americans

BOZEMAN, Mont. – The 2013 football season treated Montana State defensive end Brad Daly well. The awards season may be treating him even better.

The Helena Capital product followed his Buck Buchanan Award as the top defensive player in the NCAA Division I Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) Monday by becoming a consensus All-American Wednesday. Daly earned First Team All-America honors on The Sports Network, Associated Press and Walter Camp All-America teams one day after the FCS Athletic Directors Association named him its top defensive lineman of 2013 on the FCS ADA All-America squad.

Additionally , The Sports Network named junior returner Shawn Johnson Third Team All-America.

"These are great honors for Brad," said MSU head coach Rob Ash, "and he has earned every award he receives. Brad performed at an incredibly high level, but his work ethic was even better. He was the heartbeat of our defense, a great leader on and off the field, and a great story. He represents our program, university, and state extraordinarily well. I'm also very proud of Shawn Johnson, who proved this year that he's a difference-maker whenever he has the ball. He wasn't just explosive, though, he was very consistent and worked hard to get better."

Daly led the FCS with 20.5 tackles-for-loss and 14 sacks in 2013, pacing all of Division I in sacks for much of the fall. He earned Big Sky Co-Defensive Player of the Year and First Team All-Big Sky honors this season, as well. The 6-1, 240 lb defensive end has been invited to play in the NFLPA Collegiate Bowl all-star game, slated for January 18 in Los Angeles.

Johnson, a 5-9, 175 junior from Bakersfield, Calif., turned in an spectacular season as a Bobcat return man. He was honored by The Sports Network as a kick returner, he averaged 31.0 yards on 22 returns, returning one 100 yards and another 99 yards, both for touchdowns. He also averaged 13.9 yards per punt return, with one touchdown, finishing fourth nationally in kick returns and fifth in punt returns. Johnson had the longest kickoff return and run from scrimmage, and tied for the longest punt return, in the Big Sky this season.
