CMR's Johnson Shares How He Hopes His Career is Remembered

Posted: Updated:

For the first time since the early 70's, CMR football fans woke up Wednesday morning not knowing who the teams head coach will be.

Legendary Rustler Jack Johnson stepped down on Tuesday after 41 seasons of unequaled success. 340 wins, 13 AA state titles, 20 championship game appearances and so many kids who's life he affected in a positive way.

When we spoke with Johnson on Tuesday, we asked him what he hoped his legacy would be. He shared a lot of the credit for his success on the field with his players and assistant coaches, and says he just hopes to be remembered as someone who gave the best he had while coaching at CMR.

"It was never a one man operation here, you don't do that in AA football. So, I had a lot of help," Johnson says. "But, just a guy who worked hard and enjoyed what he did and got the most out of it that he could. I've pretty much been average at everything, so I knew I had to work hard if I was going to be successful at anything. So I decided to do that and be disciplined and just dedicate my life to it."
