Good news after a skier caught in an avalanche last night on Saddle Park in the Bridger Mountain Range, only suffering minor injuries.
Today, avalanche specialists increased the avalanche danger in the Bridgers to the "high" category.
The Bridgers received about seven to nine inches of snow overnight. Now, the Gallatin County Avalanche Center says the snow pack is extremely weak and unstable, making it more likely for avalanches to occur as a result.
Avalanche specialist mark staples says avalanche conditions are much higher this year than they were at this time last year.
Mark Staples of the Gallatin National Forest stating, "the layers of snow down near the ground were very strong so we had a real strong foundation to our snow pack. Now it's the exact opposite, the snow pack for our foundation is very weak so it can't support the weight of much snow."
Staples expects avalanche conditions to remain high in the Bridgers at least through the weekend.
