Seven People Charged with Sexual Abuse of Children Crimes

Posted: Updated:
MISSOULA -
Seven people are in Missoula County Jail for allegedly soliciting sexual encounters with undercover police officers posing as a 12-year-old girl.

It all started on Tuesday when the Montana Internet Crimes Against Children task force launched the sting.

They posted an ad on Craigslist targeting people seeking sex with underage girls.

Now, six men are charged with sexual abuse of children, and a woman is charged with conspiracy to commit that crime.

Each of the seven suspects responded to a Craigslist ad posted by the task force.

They were then arrested by undercover officers when they arrived for a supposed meeting with the girl at a house in Missoula.

Judge Karen Orzech set bail at $25,000 for three of the men and the woman.

Orzech increased bail to $75,000 for a 54-year-old suspect who had handcuffs and lube he wanted to use with the 12-year-old when police arrested him.

Bail was set at $50,000 for another suspect who's employed by the U.S. Army in Washington state who the judge says may pose a flight risk.

Orzech ordered all suspects have no contact with anyone under the age of 18.

That order forces some of the suspects to move out of their homes with kids and others to quit their jobs.

A seventh man bonded out of jail.

All suspects will appear again in court on January 2.
