Great Falls Animal Shelter Close to Opening Animal Center

After a huge donation from a local family, the Great Falls Animal Foundation is one step closer to opening up the Margaret J. Maclean Animal Shelter. The Great Falls Animal Foundation is inching ever closer to their goal of opening the new animal center project since construction started back in 2011.

"We are currently aiming to raise a million dollars and right now we have just over $700,000. As you may or may not know we recently had a large donation from a family in town of $175,000, so that helped bump it up," says Director Pam Volk.

Other than the obvious sections of walls and plumbing left to go up, each of the Animal Education rooms still are in need of financial backing.

"Education in the cornerstone of our facility, what we want to do is make sure that animal welfare is improved through education. So definitely need to finish all the animal rooms," explains Volk.

The staff at the Great Falls Animal Foundation say they are grateful for community help, but are still in need to reach their goal to make opening day.

"We have the 10th anniversary of our Fur Ball in April and that is a wonderful event another way you can get involved with helping the center is by pledging or giving a cash donation, with those you have the opportunity to purchase a naming right so for example if you wanted to purchase the training room that's $30,000 or you can purchase a landscaping tree for a thousand. It's a wonderful way to memorialize family members," says Volk.

And with any hope the new animal welfare center could be up and running very soon.

"Once construction starts, our contractor says we can open up 4 to 6 months," adds Volk.
