Former sheriff's office worker admits embezzling

Posted: Updated:

KALISPELL, Mont. (AP) - A former Flathead County sheriff's office employee has pleaded guilty to felony theft after embezzling thousands of dollars from the sheriff's office employees association.

36-year-old Nicole Fister of Kalispell made the plea earlier this month in Flathead District Court.

The plea deal calls for Fister to receive a sentence of five years in prison followed by five years of probation.

The plea deal doesn't address restitution. Authorities say Fister has admitted to illegally cashing 30 checks adding up to more than $30,000. But officials say more than $90,000 is missing.

Fister was a civilian employee of the sheriff's office and served as treasurer of the employees association. The association's funds come from membership dues and fundraising and are used to support charitable causes.
