Lady Griz Freshman Alycia Sims Contributing in Big Way

Posted: Updated:

Alycia Sims is a freshman on the Lady Griz.  She's also six foot three and the tallest on the team, which is something she's used to.

"I started playing basketball when I was four or five because I was always taller than everyone else and so it was just pushed on me to play basketball.  I could not walk and chew gum at the same time until about eighth grade so it was a rough start and if you would've told me that I would be playing college basketball back then I would have could you you're crazy," said Lady Griz Center Alycia Sims.

The local girl from down the road in Stevensville knew by the time she got to high school she had the potential to play in college if she put in the work.  But she didn't always picture herself playing for the Lady Griz.

"I always thought I was going to get out of Montana and I had a lot of opportunity to and I took four of my officials (recruiting trips) out of state and at the last second decided to come to Montana. Once I cam on my official I just realized that I was playing the grass is greener game and realized it was nice to come here and be close to home and it's been a great experience so far," said Sims.

Sims has been a key contributor off the bench averaging seven points and six rebounds a game.

"She can move her feet and she is a smart defender for a freshmen and she is a big strong girl and she is doing a great job," said Lady Griz Head Coach Robin Selvig.

Sims has also played 18 minutes per game, something that took her a little by surprise.

"I did not expect to be playing and come in and have a role on this team like I have now but it's great and I think I am improving everyday and hope I can continue to contribute to the team," said Sims

GREAT FALLS- With hunting season officially underway, many families lucky enough to get something may have a little extra meat on their hands. If you're wondering what to do with it, we have some options for you. You can donate it to Timberland Taxidermy through a program called, Hunters Against Hunger.  They'll process the meat for you, and then a local food pantry will pick it up.
