Tourism Up in Montana

Posted: Updated:

A study done at the University of Montana shows tourism in Montana during 2013 was on the rise. According to the University of Montana tourism and recreation research department the institute for tourism and recreation research study says more than 11 million non-Montana residence visited the treasure state. Those visitors spent nearly 3.5 billion dollars this past year. That number brings the total of non resident visitors up from 2012 by 2% and total spending compared to 2012 was also up by 4%. Interestingly enough the biggest trend of out of state visitors last year was from our friends to the north. Folks from Alberta, Canada have been a major part of tourism to the state of Montana for about 3 years now representing 10% of those who vacationed and visited our state. The study also listed vacationers from Washington and California, whose number of visitors were not too far off from Alberta's ranging at 8% and 7% of visitor a total that is much higher than any other recent year. These numbers proved that this years government shutdown had very little effect on Montana's tourism during 2013.
