Tourism Up in Montana

A study done at the University of Montana shows tourism in Montana during 2013 was on the rise. According to the University of Montana tourism and recreation research department the institute for tourism and recreation research study says more than 11 million non-Montana residence visited the treasure state. Those visitors spent nearly 3.5 billion dollars this past year. That number brings the total of non resident visitors up from 2012 by 2% and total spending compared to 2012 was also up by 4%. Interestingly enough the biggest trend of out of state visitors last year was from our friends to the north. Folks from Alberta, Canada have been a major part of tourism to the state of Montana for about 3 years now representing 10% of those who vacationed and visited our state. The study also listed vacationers from Washington and California, whose number of visitors were not too far off from Alberta's ranging at 8% and 7% of visitor a total that is much higher than any other recent year. These numbers proved that this years government shutdown had very little effect on Montana's tourism during 2013.

The water park was evacuated while crews worked to put the flames out.

    One woman is dead after being shot by Sandpoint Police officers Tuesday night at Bonner General Hospital.The Bonner County Sheriff's Office is handling the multi-agency investigation and according to Sheriff Daryl Wheeler, Sandpoint Police officers were called to the area of 3rd and Alder in front of Bonner General Hospital Tuesday night for a report of a woman who was armed with a knife.

    UPDATE: A Spokane County judge has sentenced Clay Starbuck to life in prison without the possibility of parole for torturing and killing his ex-wife.
    UPDATE: A Spokane County judge has sentenced Clay Starbuck to life in prison without the possibility of parole for torturing and killing his ex-wife. The 48-year-old Deer Park man was convicted by a jury last month and sentenced on Thursday.
