Griz Relying on Upper-Classmen Leadership in Conference

Posted: Updated:

With their 82-70 win over Sac State Saturday the Griz are now 1-1 in conference and 6-5 overall. Junior guard Jordan Gregory led all scorers with 20 points and fellow junior Keron Deshields was right behind him with 17. But it was the steady all-around play of senior Kareem Jamar who had 14 points and a game high 6 assists that led the way for Montana.

And with conference play in full swing now, t's that sort of leadership and experience that Coach Tinkle and the Griz will rely on moving forward.

Wayne Tinkle, "they've (the upper classmen) got to teach the younger guys what conference play intensity is about and get it out. It starts by doing it every day not just when the ball goes up in the air. We've just got to remember that defense and rebounding, making free throws, and those simple things. That's what gets you in position to win conference games home or on the road so have to continue to develop those things."

Montana will continue their conference schedule at Eastern Washington on January 9.
