High School College Day at Great Falls MSU

Posted: Updated:

The Great Falls College MSU campus was buzzing with student activity today but it was not their normal students in the halls. Great Falls College MSU is hosting their 16th annual event, College in a Day, which brings in one of the largest number of prospective students from central Montana.

"So we are hosting about 180 students today over 21 high schools in the region so everywhere from Sunburst to Malta to White Sulpher Springs and All the local schools are attending as well," explains Erica Rominter.

For students like Great Falls High's Mikayla Renier, the program helps expand college goals and interests.

"There is something that I wasn't at first interested in, but now kind of more into it. I was kind of dead set on like theater and teaching and now medical stuff looks really interesting and I would have never experienced that unless it was from today," says Great Falls High Student, Mikayla Renier.

Also invited to attend are school guidance counselors who say this is very beneficial to students like Renier.

"Definitely because there again we can explain programs to kids but it's so much better for them too come see them first hand," says Centerville High Guidance Counselor, Linda Konesky.

For Great Falls College MSU, they are glad to be able to help young minds pick the path that's right for them.

"It's a great opportunity for them to get a snapshot of what college life is like inside the class room in front of an instructor also just to do some career exploration. Hopefully narrow down what they want to do with their futures," says Rominter.
