New Information has Come Out Regarding an Avalanche Victim

Posted: Updated:

New information has come out today regarding the recent death of a snowmobilier who lost his life during an avalanche in Big Sky.

Doug Chabot,  the Avalanche Center, says the victim, Burton Kenneth Gibson was underneath avalanche terrain when he was caught in the slide. He did have an airbag on him during the incident, however he did not use it. Regardless, Chabot says 30% of the time airbags do not work. He explains, "While it's a great piece of equipment to have, it's not full proof and that's why we also recommend that when you go in the back country that you have an avalanche transceiver, a shovel and probe on top of having anything like an airbag."
