Montana State loses close game

BOZEMAN, Mont. (AP) - Aaron Anderson scored 18 points, Troy Huff added 13 as North Dakota held on to defeat Montana State 72-69 Saturday night.

Flavien Davis scored a layup and was fouled to pull Montana State within 70-69 with 48 seconds to play, but he missed the ensuing free throw. Anderson then answered with two free throws to cap the scoring. Stephan Holm missed a potential game-tying 3-pointer with 3 seconds left for Montana State.

Anderson hit a 3-pointer to give North Dakota its largest lead, 54-43 with 16:37 remaining.

 

Griz fall to Northern Colorado

MISSOULA, Mont. (AP) - Derrick Barden and Tate Unruh combined for 40 points as Northern Colorado defeated Montana 84-73 Saturday night.

Barden and Unruh each scored 20 as Northern Colorado bounced back from its first conference defeat, a 70-55 loss to Montana State Thursday night.

Tevin Svihovec scored 12 points for Northern Colorado (11-4, 5-1 Big Sky Conference).

Montana took at 44-40 lead early in the second half, but the Bears went on a 17-4 run to lead 57-48 with 11:30 to play. Michael Weisner made a 3-pointer as Montana closed to 75-67 with 2:13 remaining. Dominique Lee answered with two free throws and Barden had a dunk to extend the lead to 79-67.

Northern Colorado was 29 of 50 from the field (58 percent) while shooting 5 of 10 from beyond the arc. The Bears won the rebound battle, 31 to 15.

Kareem Jamar led Montana (7-8, 2-4) with 23 points.

    The Great Falls Police Department lost one of their officers today, when Community Officer Steve Giffin died after a fight with an illness. The GFPD posted about the loss on Facebook. Officer Giffin had been with the department for four years, serving as an accident investigator. Before joining the department, Giffin served as a member of the security forces of the Air Force.     One man was injured in a one vehicle accident on lower river road at approximately 5:30 p.m. tonight. The vehicle was traveling southbound when it drifted into the northbound and struck a tree. Police officers told us that speed was not a factor in this accident, and the vehicle was most likely driving the speed limit. It isn’t apparent if the man was impaired by drugs or alcohol but the investigation is still open.  He does have a head injury from not wearing his seat b...
