Local Musician Nominated for Grammy

Posted: Updated:

A Whitefish woman already has her tickets and just picked up her dress for the Grammy's this weekend. She's part of a band that's nominated for an award.  FOX Montana's Parker cCollins caught up with her before she flies out to L.A.

Erica Von Kleist started playing with Secret Society, a 20-piece band in New York City, about 10 years ago. Now, the band has gotten its second Grammy nomination, for Best Large Jazz Ensemble.

"The band has been on an incredible journey, playing at all the top venues in New York City, going on tour up to Canada and over to Europe," says Von Kleist.

In the hour-long album that's up for the award, Brooklyn Babylon, Von Kleist, who trained at Julliard, plays the piccolo, the flute, the alto flute, the soprano and alto sax, as well as a few other wood flutes.

Even though she is thousands of miles away from the city, and the band, Von Kleist says she's going to keep making music with them.

Reporting in Whitefish, Parker Collins, ABC/FOX Montana.
