Purple Hearts Found

Posted: Updated:

Greg Smith says Kalispell police found all of his brother's Vietnam War Medals, and now a Texas man will offer his services and repair them for free.

Two weeks ago, a man and woman walked into frame items and tried to sell the owner Greg Smith a few prints. Kalispell police believe Sean Smith then stole and then tried to pawn several war medals and a uniform from the store.  The items served as a memorial to Greg Smith's brother, James, who served in the Vietnam War.  Authorities most recently found the Purple Heart by searching a snowbank with a metal detector.

Greg Smith said "I just thank everyone for their response and their calls. I've had, like I said, everyone calling."

Parts are still missing, including the shadowbox and the uniform.  Sean Smith is currently detained in the Flathead County Detention Center.
