The Cascade County Commissioners have voted to re-zone some property here in Great Falls to allow the seed and herbicide maker, monsanto company, to locate a breeding testing site.
The county is taking public comment for thirty days on the decision to change the zoning from commercial to light industrial which would allow indoor chemical storings. Last spring, Monsanto announced a new wheat technology center in Twin Falls, Idaho and a spokesperson said that regional sites will support wheat breeding testing adding great falls as one of the locations. Monsanto has signed a five year building lease that is based upon on the zoning charge. The job listing for a wheat agronomist indicates that the person would manage twenty to thirty test plots.
