CVS Plans to Quit Selling Tobacco Products Nation Wide

Looks like we have some bad news for smokers, but good news for their health. As of this morning, CVS has announced their plan to discontinue the sale of cigarettes. Something that comes at the cost of billions of dollars.

The CVS Pharmacy says that by the end of the 2014, none of its 7,600 locations will carry tobacco products, claiming they are "inconsistent with our purpose." Helena Foulkes, the president of CVS, says they thought, "What kind of company do we want to be? Do we really want to be a healthcare company? It was the right decision for us"

So why is this happening now? Some say its because local and state governments are joining with anti-smoking groups to pass laws banning all pharmacies from selling these products.

Now I bet your wondering, will this affect the 19.7% of adult smokers here in Montana? well, Teddy Nault, a tobacco use prevention specialist, says other companies could definitely catch on. He also believes that CVS's decision, paired with legislation we already have in Montana, will get everyone to make healthier decisions.
