Pregnant Teacher Fired

Posted: Updated:

A pregnant woman is fired from her job as a teacher, and is now considering a lawsuit! The superintendent for Butte Central School says simply this teacher violated a condition of her contract and that was the reason she was fired.

Superintendent Patrick Haggerty says Butte Central Teachers must follow the moral religious teachings of the Catholic Church both in the classroom  and in their private lives.  He says if those morals are broken, the contract is violated, and a teacher is fired.  In January, Ms. Evenson was fired for being pregnant out of wedlock.

"When we employ a person to teach in the Catholic schools, we expect that they're personal and their public life are representative and good modeling for our children in the school," says Haggerty.

Evenson spent eight years teaching at Butte Central.  She has not officially filed a lawsuit, but according to the Associated Press she has contacted lawyers from Ohio. FOX Montana attempted to contact her lawyer, but our calls were not returned.
