Capital High's Carson Dummer Signs with Montana Tech

Montana Tech head men's basketball coach Pat O'Herron announced the commitment of Helena Capital's Carson Dummer today.

"I feel we signed the best center in the state," O'Herron said. "He has a great frame to add size and strength to, and he can finish in the lane with either hand."

Dummer, a 6-foot-8 south paw for the Bruins, earned first team all-state honors as a junior and will likely garner that award again this year. This winter, he is averaging a double-double with 14.4 points and a state leading 10.2 rebounds a game. Dummer is shooting 57.7 percent from the field and 66.7 percent from the free throw line.

"Carson has come a long way this year," Capital High head coach Guy Almquist said. "He is mentally and physically tougher and that goes with being an already agile and skilled basketball player. He will be a tremendous fit athletically and academically."

"To bring a winning culture you need to bring in players that are winners, and Carson has been an integral part of a winning team the last two years," O'Herron said.

Last season, Dummer helped lead Capital High to the State Championship where the Bruins fell to Hellgate High School in overtime. Capital is currently ranked first in the AA Western standings with an 11-1 record.

"We are excited about Carson going to Tech," Almquist said. "It's good for us, good for him and good for Tech."

"I felt Montana Tech a great atmosphere, they wanted me and it was a good fit," Dummer said. "Coach O has a good team and I like the system. I think I will have good opportunities playing for him."

"He is also a tremendous student and person, and I look forward to watching his continued development on the court and in the classroom," O'Herron said.

Carson, the son of Kathy and Steve, has a 3.5 GPA. He plans on pursing a degree in business or engineering.
