MT Conservation Voters Rank State Lawmakers

Posted: Updated:

The Montana Conservation Voters unveil their National Environmental Scorecard for the state's senators and congressmen.

Senators Max Baucus and Jon Tester received their highest grades ever. Congressman Steve Daines, on the other hand, received a much lower score.

Organizers of the non-partisan group say they grade congressional delegations on issues including public health protections, clean energy, land and wildlife conservation.  Executive Director Theresa Keaveny says Congressman Daines scored less than Congressman Rehberg did when Rehberg made the Dirty Dozen list in 2012.

"We feel like it's one of the most important roles that we play informing the public of the voting record. So, they can thank our senators, and we encourage them to do so. They can also speak with our congressman and ask him why he voted the way he did, and they can share what steps he can take to improve those votes," says Keaveny.

The 2013 Environmental Scorecard ranks Senator Baucus at 85%, Senator Tester at 92%, and Congressman Daines at 4%.  Keaveny says this marks the 15th year the Montana Conservation Voters have ranked Montana's delegation.
