Students Celebrate Abraham Lincoln's Birthday

Posted: Updated:
GREAT FALLS -

Today on the 205th birthday our 16th president, the Great Emancipator was honored here at Lincoln Elementary School.

He's on our 5 dollar bill and the penny and today Lincoln Elementary School held an assembly to share in the accomplishments of President Lincoln the schools namesake.

"He was a great president, I knew that he was a good president but I didn't know that he was this great," says 5th Grader, Jacob Murray.

Students sang happy birthday to one of America's most well known President and share what they learned about him.

"He made a big impact on our country, he was a great president," says Murray.

"Fought in the civil war for the rights of slaves and on the north side it was all free and the south side was not," explained Judah McAdam.

5th grader Ethan Konka, was inspired by what he learned about Lincoln and just like honest Abe he too wants to  become a lawyer.

"I think it's important because he's probably the 2nd most famous president ever besides George Washington because he totally changed the United States. I mean there used to be the North and South were almost completely different places and now they are one united union. I was kind of interested in the fact that he was a lawyer, because when I grow up I kind of want to be a lawyer," says Konka.

Thanks to a generous donation by long time Great Falls residence Lincoln Elementary will be displaying a memorial of Abraham Lincoln.
