CMR and Bison Boys Prepare for Second Crosstown Game

Posted: Updated:

The crosstown rematch will take place on Thursday at CMR. And there is a lot riding on it for both the Rustler and Bison boys.

CMR won the first meeting between the two teams 67-59 last month at Great Falls High. The Rustlers dominated the pace from the opening tip against the younger Bison, who say they learned from that game, and from games since.

"I think for our kids, we were pretty inexperienced the first time around. CMR played a really nice game and took us out of a lot of things. Hopefully, a little more experience playing some tough teams, seeing CMR play a couple more times, we'll be more prepared this time around," Bison head coach Bob Howard says.

"There's a little bit of a difference in that we have a better feel for each other. There's probably going to be a little different things planned out for both teams," Freshman Brendan Howard adds.

The Rustlers are currently in second place in the Eastern Conference at 5-2, a half game in back of 6-2 Billings West, while the Bison are 1.5 games back at 4-3. Both teams will have four games remaining after Thursday night's clash. When they first met last month, it was Great Falls High who had the better record, and the Rustlers aren't worried about having the bullseye on their back this time.

"I don't think it's really going to be a difference. It's still going to be a very tough and close game. It's crosstown, so it's always going to be like that. If we play our best, I think we'll come out with a very good win," Rustlers senior Daekwon Carter says.

"We could put two games distance between us and Great Falls High and they can move up to stay a game within the top spot in the loss column in the top of the rankings, so obviously it's huge, and even more magnified with crosstown," Rustlers head coach John Cislo adds.

Tip-off is set for Thursday at 7:30pm. The Rustler and Bison girls play at the same time on Friday at Great Falls High.
