Women Stay Heart Healthy on Valentine's Day

Posted: Updated:

Several Great Falls organizations, including the American Heart Association and Great Falls Public Schools, invited women, especially Native American mothers, to attend the healthy native hearts wellness open house where they learned how to adopt healthier lifestyles for themselves and their families.

"The goal for today is to educate adults on being healthy so they can be a role model for the children of tomorrow," said GFPS Superintendent Tammy Lacey.

The women were able to get information on their heart and overall health from different booths set up around the center. Healthy foods and groceries were provided to teach the women more about healthy eating and keynote speaker, Dr. John Bruce, explained how maintaining mouth health was important for preventing other diseases in the body.

Lacey added, "His message was clear. You need to take care of your mouth health and your overall health. Those are related and to live a long life you need to take care of both."

With all the information and healthy goody bags, the women kicked off their lifestyle changes by making a healthy Valentine's Day dinner for their children.
