The Digital Divide Continues to Grow Between Generations

Posted: Updated:
Montana -

We've heard about problems between generations for years, but the most recent issue on many people's minds is the digital divide.

Generations are now being categorized between digital immigrants and digital natives. Immigrants are born before 1980 and hold mixed views on technology. Where as the natives place an extremely high value on technology in their daily lives.

Now that smart phones have been introduced, it seems as though the gap grows larger each day, and the effects it has on almost every aspect of our lives grows as well. These range from how we gather information, to how you interact. Because one half of the divide prefers interacting face to face, and the other uses technology, the main issue becomes that both generations rarely get to see or hear from each other.

Sexual Offenders in Montana need tier designation

In 2013 legislature passed a bill that gave district court judges the authority to assign a tier level to an offender after sentencing. Tier designations are important because of how it's used to predict the likelihood that a sexual offender will re-offend. However over half of Montana's registered sex offenders haven't been assigned.
