A Year Long Child Abuse Trial Ends Well for Prosecutors

Posted: Updated:
GREAT FALLS -

After a year of suffering, a child's father has found some closure, now that the jury has returned with a guilty verdict for a man accused of severely beating his two year old son.

Riley Charlo- Whitworth was found guilty on three charges including: aggravated assault,  aggravated assault on a minor and criminal endangerment.

After the child was brought to the hospital, police arrested Charlo-Whitworth and his girlfriend Alexis Paul, who is also the child's mother. Documents described the toddler as having life threatening injuries, along with severe abdominal trauma and bruising.

Charlo-Whitworth claimed that the child had fallen down a flight of stairs, but a surgeon testified that the likelihood of those injuries occurring from that kind of fall were extremely unlikely.

Prosecutors are thrilled with today's verdict, but are even more excited that justice is being served for the young victim.

ENTIAT, Wash. - A burn out operation is planned for Tuesday morning in an effort to establish a secure line in the bottom of the canyon where the Mills Canyon Fire is burning. Burning material rolling downhill and igniting spot fires on the north side of Swakane Canyon have caused concerns and indicate a vulnerability to a fire escape and repeatedly expose firefighters to very steep terrain and rolling material.
