GREAT FALLS, Mont. (AP) - Flathead County officials say a 71-year-old Helena-area man was shot during an armed standoff with officers in the Browning area.
Sheriff Chuck Curry tells the Great Falls Tribune (http://gftrib.com/1ee6ten ) his office received a report shortly before 8 p.m. Thursday of a missing man who was armed and suicidal.
Undersheriff Dave Leib tells The Associated Press that officials knew the location of the man's sport utility vehicle based on its OnStar system.
Leib says deputies spotted the man's SUV and began a pursuit, but backed off due to high speed and road conditions. He says Glacier County deputies took over the pursuit when the man's SUV crossed the county line.
Curry says the pursuit ended with an armed standoff and shots fired. The man's name has not been released.
Glacier County officials were not immediately available for comment.
