The Student Assistance Foundation Plans to Cut Helena Jobs

HELENA -

The Student Assistance Foundation, a nonprofit that services federal student loans, plans to cut 10-15 jobs in Helena after losing a contract in December's 2012 budget deal. A spokesperson from the company says they will also have to make some additional cost and benefit reductions in the near future.

The federal government took control of federal student loans back in 2010, instead of offering them from other lenders, such as the Student Assistance Foundation. While a few nonprofits were still allowed to service various loans, December's budget bill discontinued that provision.
