Carroll Saints Ready for Playoff Match Up This Monday

Posted: Updated:

In two years under head coach Rachelle Sayers, the Carroll Saints have not only made the playoffs, but advanced past the first round. This year they're the six seed, and despite past playoff success, Northern posts some sizeable concerns for coach Sayers.

"They're big inside so we're going to have some difficulties there and we're going to have to come up with some things that can nullify their size," said Sayers. "Both games we played with them have gone down to the wire and we expect nothing less."

Northern's size is no joke, especially with 6'5" A'jha Edwards patrolling the paint. But even with the size disadvantage, Carroll knows what it has to do to win this game, keep it simple.

"We're definitely going to have to play it as a team, and play together," said junior guard Kalee Junkermier. "It's really hard to play up in Havre. For us to win we just need to stick together and play our hardest."

"Definitely defense is going to win that game. That's a tough gym to shoot in. And if we can step it up on the defensive end then our offense will get going," said red shirt sophomore forward Jordan Johnston.

"They rebound very well and they defend very well. They're one of the best defensive teams in the country," said coach Sayers. "So I know coach Mouat will have them locked into us and they'll be ready and prepared for us just as much as we'll be ready and prepared for them. So it's going to come down to players making plays."

Well good news coach! In that playoff atmosphere up in Havre there should be no shortage of players making plays.

ENTIAT, Wash. - A burn out operation is planned for Tuesday morning in an effort to establish a secure line in the bottom of the canyon where the Mills Canyon Fire is burning. Burning material rolling downhill and igniting spot fires on the north side of Swakane Canyon have caused concerns and indicate a vulnerability to a fire escape and repeatedly expose firefighters to very steep terrain and rolling material.
